Due to the large and increasing number of recipients, with the help of the UOB IT Center, on May 16, 2009, we inaugurated the ASC-list listserv, thus allowing members to post directly to the list. Current list membership is 350 members.
  • Established in January 2004 a website for the American Studies Center at the following URL: http://userspages.uob.edu.bh/asc.
  • Member of Fulbright and Humphrey Scholarship Selection Committee. Interviewed and selected applicants for Fulbright and Humphrey State Department scholarships on September 4 and 6, 2007 at US Embassy in Manama.
  • Established a biannual newsletter for the American Studies Center, entitled ASC News, with the first issue published in February 2004. The newsletter became a magazine after two issues. Obtained, in the fall of 2006, new Apple PowerMac G5 computer, HP Color Laserjet 3600 printer, QuarkXpress software, and Adobe Creative Suite STD CS 2.0 for MAC software in order to design the ASC News magazine in-house.

    • This course trains supervisors to identify and eliminate workplace harassment and discrimination based on protected characteristics, by helping them understand the law, and by demonstrating how to appropriately respond to misconduct. It helps supervisors recognize and address inappropriate behavior before it creates a hostile work environment. It also helps build the skills necessary to recognize abusive behavior and other misconduct, microaggressions, and unconscious bias that may lead to workplace bullying, hostility, and reduced productivity and creativity. This course provides practical tips on creating a safe, inclusive work environment, including safe and positive options for bystander intervention. Based on learner profile settings, the course content satisfies the state sexual harassment training mandates of New York, Maine, Connecticut, and California (including AB 1825, AB 2053, and SB 396). For higher education customers, this course also engages faculty and staff members on how to identify and report sexual and interpersonal misconduct, and covers awareness and prevention education topics required by the Clery Act and Title IX, including state law definitions of consent, sexual assault, domestic and dating violence, and victim protections.     • The West Virginia State Purchasing Card Program was implemented in 1996 addressing the need for a process that would create more accountability for purchases, improve relations with vendors and save the State millions through cost avoidance. All cardholders are required to receive training prior to having access to a PCard or the PCard software. For State cardholders, two separate training sessions and quizzes are required. One session being on the West Virginia's Ethics Act.     • The National Safety Council's online Defensive Driving Course is the Council's first Internet-based driver-training program and is based on the 8-hour defensive driving course for the classroom, but takes the average student half that time to complete. If you are taking the course for a specific purpose, such as for an auto insurance premium reduction, an employer, or as a court requirement please verify how long you have to complete the course. You can receive a certificate of completion from the National Safety Council that, in many states, can be used to lower or maintain automobile insurance rates. In 1996, technology eclipsed the gopher format, so I created a web page for the GSS. Also, in coalition with other graduate and undergraduate students and University faculty and staff, successfully persuaded the University Trustees to name the University Library in honor of W.E.B. Du Bois. In addition, I revised and updated the list of University task forces, councils, and committees which graduate students are appointed to and put relevant committee information on the University Gopher and Web server.
